Purbaya Reveals the Rotation of DJP North Jakarta Employees to Maintain Performance and Supervision

JAKARTA - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has reorganized the ranks of officials at the North Jakarta Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) Regional Office by appointing four new officials.

The step was taken as a follow-up to the case of alleged bribery involving officials of the North Jakarta Tax Office (KPP) and is currently being handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Purbaya explained that the rotation of positions was carried out to maintain the smooth performance of the organization, although not all of the officials who were replaced were proven to be directly involved in the corruption case.

According to him, the legal process that is running has the potential to disrupt public services if it is not anticipated immediately.

"If he is busy at the KPK, he can disrupt the service to the public. So we take steps to replace as soon as possible those who are having problems at the KPK," he said after the inauguration of new officials in the DJP environment, Thursday, January 22.

The four officials who were inaugurated were Untung Supardi as Head of the North Jakarta DJP Regional Office, Gorga Parlaungan as Head of the North Jakarta Sub-KPP, Andika Arisandi as the Functional Officer of the Young Expert Tax Assessor of the North Jakarta Sub-KPP, and Hadi Suprayitno as Head of Section III Supervision of the North Jakarta Sub-KPP.

Regarding the replacement of the Head of the North Jakarta DJP Regional Office, Purbaya emphasized that the rotation would still be carried out even though the previous official had not been proven to be directly involved in the bribery case that dragged his subordinates.

He called the policy a form of affirmation of the leadership's responsibility for supervising the work units he leads.

"He was first rested, at home, later we will find a suitable position for him. Even though he was not directly involved as Kakanwil, he must be responsible for what happened below him," he said.

Purbaya also emphasized the importance of the role of superiors in supervising subordinates.

According to him, deviations are impossible without weak supervision and ask that leaders at all levels, including regional offices, be fully responsible for the performance and integrity of the units they lead.

"I remind them again that they are not working alone, they are supervised by their superiors, their superiors must supervise their subordinates well. Don't get involved, but don't get beaten, if you just play around, your boss doesn't know," he explained.

"So, I want us to take strategic steps to the level of the regional office, we also mutate this as a warning for other tax officers, maybe also BC and other foreign ministry officers, that the neighbor's boss will answer for the level of action below him," he added.

Furthermore, Purbaya stated that mutation and organizational restructuring measures would continue in the coming months.

According to him, this step is not only because of indications of violations, but to ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with regulations and to maintain the image of the tax institution and the Ministry of Finance as a whole.

"Please make sure you work well, because the image is not me, not you, but the image of taxes and finances and most importantly it can affect our state's income, which last year we had a hard time increasing it," he added.

"I am confident that with better friends in the future, our tax target should still be achievable. All of you lead units on the front lines, where taxpayers come, business comes, where the country's trust is at stake," he added.

For information, the KPK has previously searched the headquarters of the Directorate General of Taxes in order to deepen the case of alleged bribery of tax examinations in the North Jakarta Sub-Directorate and during the search, investigators seized a number of documents and electronic evidence.

This case began with a hand-in-hand operation (OTT) carried out by the KPK and from the OTT, the KPK named a number of suspects as recipients and bribe givers related to the tax examination.

The suspects who received bribes and gratuities were the Head of the North Jakarta KPP, Dwi Budi Iswahyu, the Head of the Supervision and Consultation Section of the North Jakarta KPP, Agus Syaifudin, and the Tax Assessor at the North Jakarta KPP, Askob Bahtiar.

Meanwhile, the bribe-giving suspect is the Tax Consultant of PT WP Abdul Kadim Sahbudin and PT WP staff Edy Yulianto.
