No Longer Living in Tents, Huntara Aceh Tamiang is Designed to be Cooler for Residents

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo revealed that the Temporary Housing (Huntara) 2 which was built in Aceh Tamiang Regency was equipped with special materials to reduce the heat of the weather for the comfort of residents affected by disasters.

Dody explained that each unit of Huntara 2 uses a roof with an aluminum foil layer that functions to reflect solar radiation so that the temperature inside the residence remains cooler, especially during the day.

"The most important thing is that people can enter the house, get out of the tent. We encourage the acceleration of the construction of temporary housing in some places so that residents can worship Ramadan more safely and calmly," said Dody in his statement in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, January 22.

The construction of Huntara 2 is not only aimed at providing temporary housing, but also paying attention to the thermal comfort and psychological conditions of residents who have been staying in evacuation tents.

The cooler residence is expected to provide more decent rest space, especially for children, the elderly, and families who will undergo fasting.

The PU Ministry is currently continuing to develop Huntara 2 in Aceh Tamiang as part of the acceleration of post-disaster recovery. This program is aimed at allowing the community to immediately occupy safer, more comfortable, and decent housing during the transition period to permanent housing.

Dody said the acceleration of the construction of Huntara 2 was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's instructions that people affected by disasters should not stay in tents for long.

Huntara 2 was built with a modular temporary housing concept in the Karang Baru area, Aceh Tamiang, on an area of 13,248 square meters with a total building area of 3,780 square meters. This housing consists of 13 blocks of houses and one unit of mosque.

The facility is intended for 156 families or about 624 people, and is equipped with 78 toilets and 78 bathrooms to maintain sanitation and environmental health.

The construction of Huntara 2 is targeted to be completed before the fasting month or at the latest in mid-February 2026.

The selection of the location of Huntara 2 is in the middle of the Aceh Tamiang Regency City which is considered more organized and close to public facilities such as schools, so that it can support the activities and social life of residents during their stay in temporary housing.

Apart from Aceh Tamiang, the PU Ministry is also accelerating the construction of Huntara in other affected areas in Aceh. In Bener Meriah Regency, the construction progress has reached 5.32 percent, while in Pidie Jaya and North Aceh, location surveys are still being carried out as the initial stage of the construction of temporary housing.
