Zeekr 7X Makes History, Conquered Moreeb Dune in Abu Dhabi in 7.3 Seconds
JAKARTA - The desert is known as a difficult terrain for vehicles. Soft sand, extreme slopes, and high temperatures usually make gasoline-powered 4x4 cars appear as the rulers of the sand dunes.
However, that perception began to shift after Zeekr's action in Abu Dhabi at the end of last year. The special version of Zeekr 7X made history as the first electric car to successfully climb the famous Moreeb Dune.
Launching from Arena EV, Thursday, January 22, the climb was not done at a slow pace, but only in 7.343 seconds. This achievement also broke a new record for the electric and hybrid vehicle category.
Moreeb Sand Hill is often nicknamed the Hill of Fear because this sand hill rises to 300 meters or the equivalent of a building of about 90 floors, with a slope of up to 50 degrees. At the Liwa International Festival where this record took place, the sand condition is also known to be soft so that vehicles easily lose traction and are attracted to go down.

The car used in the record is the Zeekr 7X AWD Performance. This electric SUV carries two electric motors that produce 646 horsepower and 710 Nm of torque.
The instantaneous power character of the electric motor becomes a big advantage when riding steep sand climbs. Not to mention the 800V electrical system that keeps the power flow stable when the vehicle is forced to work hard.
In order to be able to conquer Moreeb, the team from AW Rostamani Group made several technical adjustments. They installed special offroad tires and improved the suspension to dampen the shock on the sand surface.
In addition, the front and rear axles are extended to create a wider wheel track so that the car is more stable. Even so, Zeekr insists that key components such as the electric motor and battery remain the same as the production version sold to consumers.
Zeekr 7X also comes equipped with an intelligent torque vectoring system to precisely regulate the distribution of power to each wheel, so that the wheels do not just spin without producing traction. As a result, the car is able to accelerate and maintain momentum to the top of the sand hill.
Beyond these extreme actions, the Zeekr 7X is still positioned as a premium SUV for daily use. This car has a length of 4,787 mm and a width of 1,930 mm, with a spacious cabin and a luggage compartment of up to 765 liters, making it suitable for families and long trips.
In the United Arab Emirates, the Zeekr 7X is marketed starting at 169,900 UAE dirhams or equivalent to Rp781 million. Meanwhile, the highest version of the Performance used to break the record was priced at close to 209,900 UAE dirhams or Rp966 million.
This achievement is proof that electric vehicles are not just about urban efficiency. Zeekr shows that EVs are also able to face extreme terrain that has long been synonymous with conventional-engined vehicles.
