JAKARTA - It is rumored that the NasDem Party is eyeing the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, to be a champion in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. The reason is that the party created by Surya Paloh does not yet have a potential candidate to be promoted in the five-yearly democratic party.

Moreover, Ganjar's relationship with PDIP DPP chairman Puan Maharani within the party is getting heated. Ganjar is predicted not to get a ticket for the presidential election from the bull party.

"The choice is of course to political parties that currently do not have potential figures, for example NasDem," said political observer Dedi Kurnia Syah, Monday, May 30. Dedi suspects that NasDem has an interest in Ganjar when referring to the electability of the governor of Central Java for the two periods, which has increased in several years. However, if Ganjar changes parties, it will reduce Ganjar's potential for contestation from presidential candidate to vice presidential candidate. "In terms of politics, (NasDem, ed) is more likely to offer a vice presidential candidate than a presidential candidate. That is if the character has high electoral power," he said.

In addition, the executive director of Indonesia Political Opinion suspects that the conflict between Ganjar and Puan could be merely a political drama.

"We see the momentum of time, this conflict arose not during the struggle for position, whether it was about Ganjar's continuity in the PDIP or the struggle for positions within the party," he said.

However, he continued, if the conflict is not fabricated, then the only way for Ganjar to be able to participate in the 2024 presidential election is with another party.

"Ganjar remains calm, accusations (PDIP, ed) do not need to be responded to," he said.

Previously, a poster circulated about Ganjar Pranowo who was advised to move from PDIP to the NasDem Party to smooth his steps towards the 2024 presidential election. Although the poster emphasized that it was only a rumor, the NasDem Party responded. So far, Paloh has not chosen let alone nominate any figure to run for the 2024 presidential election. NasDem, because Charles has only started the convention for presidential candidates in 2022. In the convention, Charles said that any figure has the same opportunity to join the convention.
