Minister of Transportation Reviews KA Lines Affected by Flooding in Pekalongan, 85 Percent of Travel Back to Normal
JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi directly reviewed the Pekalongan-Sragi cross-train line which was affected by flooding due to extreme weather.
This review is carried out to ensure that the handling is fast and optimal, as well as to ensure the safety of train travel in the affected areas.
Dudy expressed his concern over the floods that hit a number of areas in Central Java because they had a direct impact on public safety and the smooth running of transportation, especially railway operations.
"I saw directly several points of the railway line that were still flooded. Several steps have been taken and will continue to be taken," he said in an official statement, Wednesday, January 21.
Since the beginning of the incident, the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Railways has carried out intensive coordination with PT KAI, BMKG, local governments, and local authorities. Operational technical decisions are taken quickly and measured, while still prioritizing safety aspects.
Dudy said that currently, the train line affected by the flood can be passed with special arrangements.
The speed limit is applied as a preventive measure, namely a maximum of 40 km per hour on the upstream line and 30 km per hour on the downstream line.
"For safety, we have imposed speed restrictions on the route where there are still puddles. Therefore, there is still a delay in travel due to the reduction in the speed of this train. However, currently based on KAI data, 85 percent of train travel has recovered and is running normally. Meanwhile, the other 15 percent still has a delay," explained Dudy.
The Ministry of Transportation ensures that monitoring is carried out intensively for 24 hours on the condition of the railway line and weather developments.
The infrastructure and railway facilities team is also being deployed to lower the water, clean up flood materials, and conduct a thorough inspection of the construction of the rail, bearing, and bridge.
Meanwhile, PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin revealed that the waterlogging that occurred from January 16 to 19, 2026 had an impact on two main points in the Pekalongan area.
This condition caused 124 passenger train trips to be canceled.
"KAI is applying a 100 percent ticket fee refund for all customers affected by the cancellation, with a deadline for submission of up to seven days. Currently, the refund process is underway and being used by customers," said Bobby.
In addition to ticket refunds, KAI also carries out service recovery for customers who experience travel delays, as well as operation recovery to restore the reliability of railway infrastructure.
In emergency handling, PT KAI has raised the rail track by 23 centimeters. In the future, infrastructure strengthening will continue with plans to raise up to a maximum of 50 centimeters along approximately 600 meters.
"Including adjustments to the structure of the bridge and the embankment, which were previously identified as having a basin," he said.
