The Government Will Use the Land of the Corruptor for Subsidized Houses
JAKARTA - Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) Maruarar Sirait or Ara revealed that his party had received a green signal from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to utilize confiscated land or land from corruption cases for the construction of people's housing, especially subsidized houses.
Ara said that the Ministry of PKP would be given access to apply for the use of land that had been confiscated by the KPK and had a permanent legal force. The use, he said, was intended entirely for the public's benefit and not for commercial purposes.
This was conveyed by Ara after consulting with Deputy Chairman of the KPK Johanis Tanak and the KPK leadership at the KPK Red and White Building, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Wednesday, January 21. The meeting lasted almost 3 hours and discussed the opportunities for the use of state assets from the seizure of corruption cases.
"I got tremendous support. Today I asked for the letter to be prepared, the land from the KPK, which has been confiscated by the KPK and has legal force, we can apply for it for people's housing, yes," said Ara in a press conference after the closed consultation meeting.
Ara emphasized that his party would immediately follow up on the results of the consultation by sending an official letter to the KPK. The letter contains a request for access to the use of confiscated land from corruptors who are considered potential for use as subsidized housing areas.
"So I will send a letter because I got tremendous support today from the KPK. As long as it is for housing for the people, yes. So today I will send a letter, please make sure the letter is delivered to the KPK today," said Ara.
He emphasized that the utilization of confiscated land would be fully focused on the development of public housing, in line with the government's program in providing decent and affordable housing for low-income people (MBR).
Ara also revealed that from the results of discussions with the KPK, information was obtained regarding a number of land assets from the confiscation of corruption cases that are currently under the management of the KPK. According to him, the KPK has given a principle approval so that these assets can be used for public interest.
"Because we have just received clearance, that the KPK has confiscated land from corruptors or corruption, then those who have legal force, it can be used for people's housing. Not for commercial, for people's housing," concluded Minister Ara.
