VinFast VF 6 and VF 7 Receive the Highest Five-Star Safety Rating in India
JAKARTA - VinFast has recorded an important achievement in the Indian market. Its two electric SUVs, VF 6 and VF 7, managed to achieve the highest safety rating by bagging a 5-star rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP).
In the official assessment results, the VF 6 collected 27.13 points out of a total of 32 points for the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category. Meanwhile, for Child Occupant Protection (COP), this electric SUV scored 44.41 points out of a maximum of 49 points.
Launching Gaadiwaadi, Wednesday, January 21, VF 7 scored higher. The model received 28.54 out of 32 points for adult passenger safety and 45.25 out of 49 points for child passenger protection.
Bharat NCAP said the safety performance of the two models remained solid in various types of impact tests. In the frontal offset impact test, the VF 6 and VF 7 both scored a maximum score of 4,000 points in the protection of the head, neck, and upper thighs, both for the driver and front passenger.
Side impact testing also strengthens the credibility of both safety levels. For adult passenger protection, both obtained a perfect score of 16,000 out of 16,000 points.
As for child passengers, the score achieved was also maximum, namely 8,000 out of 8,000 points. In the side pole impact test, the results were also satisfactory.
The head injury criteria were recorded at 109 for VF 6 and 131 for VF 7 - well below the Bharat NCAP injury threshold of 700. This achievement confirms the structural integrity of the vehicle and the effectiveness of the restraint system in a high-severity side impact.
Bharat NCAP itself is a vehicle safety assessment program that operates under the Government of India, with testing protocols that are globally aligned and similar to Global NCAP and ASEAN NCAP. Assessments include adult and child passenger protection, with ratings ranging from three to five stars.
With a 5-star rating, VF 6 and VF 7 are among the safest vehicles currently tested for the Indian market. Both electric SUVs are assembled at VinFast's manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and developed using a dedicated EV platform.
For passive safety protection, both are equipped with seven airbags as standard and high-strength body structure. Depending on the variant, VinFast also embeds various advanced driving assistance features (ADAS), ranging from adaptive cruise control, emergency lane keeping assist, front and rear autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, to auto lane change assist.
"The 5-star safety rating given to VF 6 and VF 7 by Bharat NCAP marks an important milestone, underlining the high quality and safety standards of VinFast's electric vehicles in India, one of the largest automotive markets in the world. These results show that VinFast electric vehicles are built on a solid engineering foundation and meet strict safety assessment requirements," said VinFast India CEO Tapan Ghosh.
