Gloria Succeeds in the First Round of the 2026 Indonesia Masters with Singapore Athletes

JAKARTA - Badminton specialist doubles player Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja managed to pass the first round of the 2026 Indonesia Masters, paired with Singaporean athlete Hee Yong Kai Terry.

Glora/Terry were forced to play three games against Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi from China which ended with 21-13, 20-22, and 21-13 at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, afternoon WIB.

"Yes, praise God today went smoothly. Even though it was almost two games in a row, but, yes, it's okay that we could go through the third set, we could reverse the conditions," said Gloria after the match.

This is the first time Gloria has paired with Terry in a competitive event. Previously last year he was mostly paired with Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto after parting ways with Dejan Ferdinansyah after the Malaysia Open.

In addition, he also once performed with Aquino Evano Keneddy Tangka. Their duet occurred in the 2025 Felet Vietnam International Series which ended in the semifinals.

Gloria admitted that there was not much adjustment with Terry in their debut as a couple. He said that they had known each other's characteristics.

"It's easy because, yes, we both know what the advantages are, what the disadvantages are, what each of us needs. So, it's better," he said.

Gloria further said that he had not thought about long-term targets because until now he still did not have a replacement partner.

"At Djarum (club), there are no replacement players yet, right. So, while waiting for Rehan (Naufal Kusharjanto), there is Terry too. So, it's just time, right. Short term first. Maybe six months? Maybe, yeah, let's see," he said.

Meanwhile, Terry said he was lucky to be paired with Gloria. He even admitted that he was very helped by Gloria's performance in the match.

"He carried me on the court, right. The second set was a little tense. However, yes, thank you to Kak (Gloria), he can continue to support me on the court. Yes, praise God we can win," said Terry.
