The construction of Huntara 2 in Aceh Tamiang is targeted to be completed in mid-February 2026.

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has started the construction of 2 temporary housing (huntara) in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province. The construction of the huntara is targeted to be completed by mid-February 2026.

"The construction of Huntara 2 is targeted to be completed before fasting or at the latest in mid-February 2026," said Minister of PU Dody Hanggodo as quoted from an official statement, Wednesday, January 21.

Dody explained that Huntara 2 was built with a modular temporary housing concept on an area of 13,248 square meters with a total building area of 3,780 square meters. The huntara consists of 13 residential blocks and one mosque.

The housing is intended for 156 families or about 624 people, with the support of 78 toilet units and 78 bathroom units to maintain sanitation and environmental health.

As a form of attention to the climate conditions and the comfort of residents, each huntara 2 unit is equipped with a roof with an aluminum foil layer that serves as a heat damper. The layer will reflect solar radiation, so that the temperature inside the residence remains cooler, especially during the day.

"This step is part of our efforts to reduce the heat of the weather as well as reduce the psychological pressure of residents who have been living in evacuation tents," he said.

Cooler housing is expected to provide more decent rest space, especially for children, the elderly and families preparing to fast.

"This construction is part of the effort to accelerate post-disaster recovery so that residents can immediately occupy more decent, safe, and comfortable housing, while ensuring that people's basic needs are still met during the transition period to permanent housing," said Dody.

Outside of Aceh Tamiang, the PU Ministry is also accelerating handling in other affected areas. In Bener Meriah, the progress of construction has reached 5.32 percent, while in Pidie Jaya and North Aceh, location surveys are currently being carried out as the initial stage of huntara construction.
