Janice tumbles in the first round of the 2026 Australian Open Women's Doubles
JAKARTA - Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen immediately suffered a defeat in the first round of the 2026 Australian Open women's doubles with her partner from Poland, Katarzyna Piter.
The journey of the 23-year-old tennis player was seeded by the host pair Daria Kasatkina/Arina Rodionova in a three-set match 6-1, 4-6, and 4-6 at Melbourne Park, Victoria, Australia, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
This is the second tournament for Janice/Piter in this year's calendar. The pair also previously performed together at the WTA 250 Hobart International last week, which ended with the title.
Hobart International is their second title as a pair. Previously in October last year, they managed to win the title at the WTA 250 Guangzhou Open.
Even though he lost in the women's doubles, Janice still has hope in the women's singles sector. He has passed the first round in that category by defeating the 22nd seed and 2021 US Open finalist, Leylah Fernandez, from Canada.
Janice will get a tough test in the second round of the women's singles later. This is because he will face the former world number one from the Czech Republic, Karolina Pliskova.
The success in the first round of the 2026 Australian Open made Janice the first Indonesian female tennis player to win at Melbourne Park in the last 28 years since Yayuk Basuki did it in 1998.
