Anticipating a Surge, KAI Strengthens the Ticket System Ahead of Eid
JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) will migrate and strengthen the capacity of the Rail Ticketing System (RTS) on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 00.00 to 04.00 WIB. This step is taken to ensure the reliability of the ticket booking system ahead of the Lebaran Transportation period.
The migration covers the entire ticket booking system, both Long Distance Trains (KAJJ) and Local Trains, including KAI and KAI Commuter services.
KAI's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, said that the increase in system infrastructure was a strategic step to anticipate the very high increase in ticket transactions during the Lebaran homecoming period.
"We are migrating to a more modern system infrastructure so that all booking channels, both the Access by KAI application and other sales partners, have the ability to adjust capacity dynamically and in real time," Anne said in an official statement, Wednesday, January 21.
According to Anne, strengthening this system is important so that the public can make reservations for homecoming tickets more smoothly without being hampered by technical problems.
"This is very important so that people can order tickets for homecoming more smoothly without technical obstacles," added Anne.
During the four-hour migration process, all online ticket booking, payment, and cancellation services were temporarily inaccessible.
Anne also said that this temporary closure applies to the Access by KAI application, the kai.id website, as well as all external channels or official KAI ticket sales partners.
However, KAI ensures that train travel operations continue to run normally. Given that there is still travel activity at that time, a number of mitigation measures have been prepared.
For sudden ticket purchases or emergency needs, KAI will continue to open ticket services manually through station ticket offices. In addition, the boarding process for passengers will continue according to schedule with the support of a passenger manifest that has been prepared manually by officers.
KAI said that the early morning time selection was made with consideration for the lowest transaction traffic, so that the impact on customers could be minimized.
Passengers who have departure schedules during the migration period are also urged to save a screenshot of the ticket or booking code, and ensure that the booking code is stored in the email.
KAI emphasized that all customer data and transaction history remained safe during the migration process. Various stages of planning and testing have been carried out to ensure that the system is back in normal operation on time.
"The improvement of this system is a form of our commitment to provide the best service for people who want to plan a safe and comfortable Eid journey," he concluded.
