Komdigi asks the government to apply reasonable tariffs in the development of telecommunications infrastructure

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital has asked the Regional Government to support the acceleration of the development of telecommunications infrastructure in the region, with the implementation of reasonable tariffs for the rental of regional assets.

In addition to reasonable tariffs, the Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria, also asked the Regional Government to implement regulatory certainty that does not burden the telecommunications industry in Indonesia.

According to him, the telecommunications industry in Indonesia is currently facing difficulties due to the burden of regulation or regulatory costs which are considered very high, reaching 12 percent, one of the highest in the world.

This condition is considered unhealthy for the sustainability of the industry and can hinder national digital transformation, as well as being inconsistent with national regulations regarding the imposition of tariffs on the deployment of digital infrastructure in the region.

"In fact, the regulation is clear. Article 128B of the 2024 Regional Property Management Guidelines on Regional Property Management stipulates that the adjustment of the rental of digital infrastructure is 0 percent if the Integrated Utility Network Facility (SJUT) is not yet available. This provision is designed to maintain a balance between the optimization of regional assets and investment feasibility," Nezar said in an official statement.

Nezar emphasized that the telecommunications industry does not reject contributing to regional revenues. However, according to him, the industry needs certainty, fairness, and consistency in policies.

"We consider the importance of collaboration and policy harmonization between the center and the regions. The goal is simple but strategic, namely to create a regulatory climate that is fair, transparent, and pro-growth," he said.
