BYD FCB Tai 3 Offroad Electric SUV Gets Power Boost, Lidar as Option

JAKARTA - The latest version of the pure electric off-road SUV Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) Tai 3 from BYD was recently revealed through documents from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China. This model has been improved on its drive system, while offering a lidar option.

Launching from Carnewschina, Wednesday, January 21, consumers can choose two drive configurations, namely rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). In the RWD version, the maximum power output increases from 160 kW (215 hp) to 240 kW (322 hp).

With this increase, the acceleration from 0-100 km/h is expected to improve to below 7.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the AWD variant is equipped with a 135 kW (181 hp) front electric motor and a 240 kW (322 hp) rear electric motor.

The combination of the two produces a combined power of 375 kW (503 hp) with a peak torque of 510 Nm. The increase in power of each motor is said to come from 110 kW (148 hp) for the front and 200 kW (268 hp) for the rear.

However, until now, detailed information regarding battery capacity and mileage has not been revealed. As an illustration, the current circulating RWD and AWD models use a Blade battery pack with a capacity of 65.28 kWh and 72.96/78.72 kWh.

The battery pack is claimed to be able to provide a range of up to 501 km (CLTC) for all variants. Interestingly, the updated version of the FCB Tai 3 also provides a lidar option.

The presence of this device indicates the potential for installing a higher level of God's Eye driver assistance systems from BYD. Previously, FCB Tai 3 had relied on five millimeter wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 12 high-definition cameras to support the God's Eye C (DiPilot 100) system as a basic package.

In terms of design, the dimensions of the vehicle remain unchanged, and the front still carries a black closed grille and a trapezoidal structured bumper. In the back, this car retains vertical taillights, an external tire house, and a trapezoidal bumper that is in tune with the front.

Other configurations offered include bumper and roof rack color options. BYD also noted that as of January 15, 2026, cumulative sales of the FCB had exceeded 300,000 vehicles.
