BMKG Sets Heavy Rain Alert Status in Central Java Pantura

CILACAP - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has set a heavy rain alert status in the North Coast (Pantura) area of Central Java (Jateng) in Dasarian III January 2026 following the potential for high rainfall of 200-300 millimeters per dasarian.

"The alert status is the highest early warning in the Early Warning for High Rainfall (PDCHT) which needs to be anticipated together," said the Head of the BMKG Data Services and Information Dissemination Working Team, Tunggul Wulung Cilacap Meteorological Station, Teguh Wardoyo, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 21.

He said that the areas that were included in the standby status on Dasarian III January 2026 or the period from 21-31 January included Tegal Regency, Pemalang Regency, Pekalongan Regency, Batang Regency, Demak Regency, Kudus Regency, Jepara Regency, and Pekalongan City.

In addition to the standby status, he said, BMKG also set an alert status for a number of areas in Central Java with a potential rainfall of 150-200 millimeters per day.

According to him, the alert status areas include Brebes Regency, Cilacap Regency, Banyumas Regency, Purbalingga Regency, Kebumen Regency, Banjarnegara Regency, Wonosobo Regency, Purworejo Regency, Temanggung Regency, Magelang Regency, Kendal Regency, Semarang Regency, Boyolali Regency, Klaten Regency, Sragen Regency, Sukoharjo Regency, Karanganyar Regency, and Wonogiri.

"The alert status also applies to Tegal City, Magelang City, Semarang City, Salatiga City, and Surakarta City," he said.

Regarding this, he appealed to local governments and communities in the affected areas to increase vigilance against the potential impacts of heavy rains, such as floods, puddles, and landslides, especially in disaster-prone areas.

"We urge the public to continue to monitor the latest weather information from the BMKG and immediately take anticipatory steps to reduce the risk of hydrometeorological disasters," he said.

Teguh said that BMKG will continue to monitor the development of atmospheric dynamics and update early warning information according to the latest weather conditions in Central Java.
