Red Notice fugitive Romanian Nikah Siri marries Indonesian citizen while fleeing to Bali
DENPASAR - The National Police's International Relations Division (Divhubinter) said that the red notice fugitive from Romania Zuleam Costinel Cosmin (33) married an Indonesian citizen while fleeing to Bali to avoid being chased by officers.
Head of the International Crime Section (Kabagjatranin) of the NCB Set, Interpol Indonesia, Divhubinter Polri, Kombes Ricky Purnama, said that while in Bali, Cosmin lived from the income of his wife because he himself did not do much outside of fear of being known by police officers.
"We found that the status in question has married with a siri status with our Indonesian people. The person concerned tried not to be too conspicuous. So, it means that the person who earns it is the person in question, and this is what supports his life while he is on the run," said Ricky.
In fact, said Ricky, when he was arrested by the Bali Police joint team on Thursday (15/1), his wife did not know that Cosmin was the most wanted fugitive in Romania for his crime of murdering a local businessman and threatening his son with a firearm.
"When we arrest the partner who does not know his status as a fugitive," he said.
Zuleam Costinel Cosmin was escorted by police officers from inside the building of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Bali Police to a detention car.
Cosmin seemed to avoid the spotlight of the cameras of the journalists present. Wearing an orange vest, Cosmin was escorted by officers with his hands cuffed to the prisoner's car.
Meanwhile, SES NCB Interpol Indonesia Divhubinter Polri Brigjenpol Untung Widyatmoko said Cosmin was the most wanted DPO in Romania and the European region for the murders and robberies he committed.
The Romanian NCB Bucharest then detected that the person concerned was in Indonesia until he was finally secured.
The Interpol operation was carried out for four days to arrest Cosmin with the involvement of cooperation between the NCB, Bali Police, Denpasar Police and Gianyar Police.
"Tonight the person concerned will be flown to Romania. It is scheduled to arrive safely tomorrow," he said.
On the same occasion, the Director of Criminal Investigation of the Bali Police, Kombes Pol. I Gede Adhi Mulyawarman explained that Cosmin was a suspect in a murder case that shook the Romanian public on November 6, 2023 in the city of Sibiu.
In the action, Cosmin and two of his friends infiltrated the house of a local businessman, brutally tortured the victim, and threatened the victim's daughter with a gun. The three then took away a luxury watch worth 200,000 euros.
Cosmin's two accomplices were first arrested in Ireland and Scotland, then sentenced to life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Cosmin has been an international fugitive since the Sibiu Court issued an arrest warrant on November 19, 2023.
