North Kalimantan Governor Instructs Vehicle Registration Outside the Plate
TANJUNG SELOR - North Kalimantan (Kaltara) Governor Zainal Arifin Paliwang has instructed the regulation of vehicles with out-of-area plates operating in the Kaltara area whose taxes are also paid outside the area.
The reason is that the vehicle has utilized the infrastructure and public facilities built by the Kaltara Provincial Government, so it should contribute to the regional income.
"I instructed this. Vehicles with foreign plates use our roads and facilities, but the tax is paid outside the area," said Zainal, Tuesday, January 19.
He emphasized that the North Kalimantan Provincial Government would call the vehicle owner company and the lessee to provide an explanation regarding the obligation to use the North Kalimantan number plate or KU.
"Coordination is also carried out with vertical agencies, including the Directorate of Traffic of the Kaltara Police and Jasa Raharja, to synchronize the steps of enforcement in the field," said Zainal.
He explained that the North Kalimantan Provincial Government had formed a special team for local original revenue (PAD) which was tasked with re-mapping all potential tax objects. This team is expected to be able to identify sources of income that have not been officially recorded.
"We have formed a PAD team to see the tax object opportunities that can be optimized. In Kaltara, there are still many heavy equipment that have not been recorded as a whole," he explained.
He added that the existence of heavy equipment that has not been officially recorded is one of the gaps in the PAD leakage. In fact, industrial activities such as mining, plantations, and construction using heavy equipment continue to grow in this 34th province.
"If heavy equipment operates in Kaltara, it should also be recorded and contribute taxes to the region. This is what we are organizing," said Zainal.
"If they operate and seek profit here, then they should also pay taxes here," he continued.
In addition to heavy equipment, the North Kalimantan Provincial Government also highlighted the large number of company vehicles operating in the Kaltara region but still using police numbers from other provinces. This condition is considered to hinder the optimization of motor vehicle tax revenue.
"We ask for buses, operational cars, including trucks that are still outside the region to be immediately transferred to North Kalimantan," he said.
