Indonesia Masters 2026: Sabar/Reza Dramatis to the Second Round

JAKARTA - The men's doubles Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani were forced to play a three-game match against Chia Weijie/Lwi Sheng Hao to secure a ticket to the second round of the 2026 Daihatsu Indonesia Masters.

The world's seventh-ranked pair, who are seeded fifth at Istora Senayan, played a 53-minute match against the Malaysian representative, which ended with a score of 21-18, 19-21, and 21-10 on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

"First of all, I am grateful to be able to play well in this third tournament because in the last few tournaments yesterday the results were not good either. I also had a problem with my finger yesterday. So, here I can play well again for me to be happier," said Reza.

The Indonesia Masters 2026 is the third tournament for Sabar/Reza in this year's calendar. They also played in the Malaysia Open which is a BWF Super 1000 level and the India Open which is a BWF Super 750 level.

Unfortunately, in both tournaments they got unsatisfactory results. Their journey at the Axiata Arena stopped in the quarterfinal, while in New Delhi they crashed in the second round.

Sabar hopes they can get better results in the third tournament this year. The reason is, so far their results at the Indonesia Masters have always been disappointing, unlike last year's Indonesia Open which could make it to the final.

"The target is definitely to win the 2026 Indonesia Masters because we have never been to the semifinals in this tournament. So, hopefully the good results (Indonesia Open) last year at Istora will be in our aura, but we also have to focus," he said.

Sabar/Reza is the third Indonesian men's doubles to qualify for the second round of the BWF Super 500 level tournament, following in the footsteps of Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.

In the second round tomorrow, January 21, 2026, Sabar/Reza met Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn/Tan Wee Kiong, who also came from Malaysia. The pair went to the second round after defeating Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee from China Taipei.

"In the second half we played against Malaysia. Several times we met, but tomorrow we also have to watch their videos last played. All players want to win so we have to anticipate," said Reza.

From the women's doubles sector, the second round tickets were also obtained by Siti Sarah Azzahra/Az Zahra Ditya Ramadhani and Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum. Both pairs are guaranteed to meet in the second round so that the women's doubles have one representative in the quarterfinals.
