Oleksandr Usyk Gives One Condition to Realize the Trilogy Against Tyson Fury
JAKARTA - Undisputed two-time heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk has given one condition that must be met for a trilogy fight against nemesis Tyson Fury to materialize.
Usyk previously managed to give two consecutive defeats to the Gypsy King in their two fights in 2024, which damaged the British fighter's record of 35 unbeaten records.
Their first meeting in May of that year presented a tight fight that saw Usyk knock out Fury dramatically in the ninth round. The Ukrainian then won a split decision.
When they fought again seven months later, the Ukrainian extended his dominance over Fury through an absolute victory by a convincing decision of the judges.
Less than a month after the defeat, Fury decided to hang up his gloves. However, he then came out of retirement this month to target a big fight, which may be one against Usyk.
Although Usyk is currently focused on pursuing a fight against Deontay Wilder, he remains open to a trilogy fight with the British boxer. However, there is one condition that must be met.
"Why not? However, only if it is a fight for the undisputed status," Usyk told Ready To Fight when asked if he would fight Fury again.
Usyk recently relinquished his status as undisputed heavyweight champion by vacating the WBO belt. The WBO has ordered Usyk to defend the red and gold belt against interim champion Fabio Wardley.
However, Usyk decided not to fight so Wardley automatically became the full champion. Thus, Fury must grab the WBO belt if he wants to fight Usyk again.
Fury's current plan is to return to action in a warm-up fight in the first quarter of this year before plunging into the real fight in the summer.
