Polda Metro Jaya Uncovers Illegal Firearms Home Industry, Seven People Are Suspects

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has dismantled the practice of home industry manufacturing and selling illegal firearms operating in its jurisdiction. This disclosure was made following the prevalence of violent crimes using firearms.

Director of Criminal Investigation of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin, said that the investigation of the case began with a number of armed criminal cases, one of which was a case of motorcycle theft (curanmor) in the Palmerah area, West Jakarta.

"From the disclosure of the robbery case, the Resmob team of the Criminal Investigation Unit then traced the origin of the firearms used by the perpetrator. As a result, there was found to be illegal firearms trading," said Iman at a press conference at the Polda Metro Jaya, South Jakarta, Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

In this case, the police named seven people as suspects. Five of them have been arrested and detained at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, while the other two suspects are still fugitives and are on the wanted list (DPO).

"The five suspects who have been arrested by us are each initialed RR alias Fallas, JS alias Ari, SAA alias Ade, IMR alias Iwong, and RAR alias Edo. Two other suspects are still being pursued," said Iman.

He explained that the perpetrators sold illegal firearms through various social media platforms and e-commerce services, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Tokopedia, and TikTok.

The weapons being traded come from modified airsoft guns, as well as firearms allegedly made by manufacturers. From the results of the investigation, it was found that the illegal practice had been carried out since 2018.

"The modus operandi is that the perpetrator modifies the airsoft gun by replacing the barrel and certain components so that it can be used with sharp bullets," he said.

In this disclosure, the police seized a total of 20 guns, consisting of 11 firearms and nine airsoft guns. In addition, 233 bullets of various calibers and a number of weapons assembly equipment were also secured.

However, investigators are still tracing the source of the sharp bullets used by the perpetrators.

"There are three locations for making weapons that we have searched and currently have police lines. The location is in the Bandung area," said Iman.

For their actions, the five suspects who have been arrested are charged with Article 1 paragraph (1) of the Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 as amended in Article 306 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
