DKI Provincial Government to Groundbreaking Giant Sea Wall September

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung conveyed the plan to lay the first stone or groundbreaking for the construction of a giant sea wall in September this year. The giant sea wall project is part of a national strategic program involving the central and regional governments.

"Regarding the giant sea wall, the plan is to start the groundbreaking in September this year," said Pramono in Central Jakarta, Tuesday, January 20.

Pramono said the DKI Provincial Government is currently waiting for full instructions from the central government regarding the division of authority and scope of work on the project. Even so, Jakarta stated that it was ready to carry out the tasks assigned, both in the initial scheme and the latest expansion.

"Previously, Jakarta got 12 kilometers. But yesterday, 12 plus 7 was added to 19 kilometers. Whether 12, whether 19, Jakarta will work," said Pramono.

While waiting for the start of the giant sea wall project, the DKI Provincial Government is currently focusing on completing the work on the northern coastal embankment, which is also included in the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) project. This project is aimed at strengthening coastal protection from the threat of flash floods and land subsidence.

"Now what we are building, which is being done by the Jakarta government itself, is the NCICD, the embankments of the beaches in the north," said Pramono.

Pramono also touched on past public concerns regarding the potential leakage of the northern coastal embankment. He ensured that the issue is now being resolved gradually.

According to Pramono, one of the embankments that have been completed is in the Ancol area. Currently, the DKI Provincial Government is continuing the next stage of work in the form of arranging and aesthetics of the area.

"Yesterday, in the Ancol phase, thank God it has been completed and now we are beautifying it because I ask that all of this is not just a wall or concrete, but there is a park," he said.

The plan is that in 2026, the DKI Provincial Government will continue to build embankments gradually along 1.2 kilometers. In detail, in the Pluit area along 530 meters, Muara Angke 350 meters, Kali Blencong 750 meters.

In addition, the Provincial Government is also working on other mitigation embankments in Muara Angke along 1.1 kilometers and in the Bywalk Pluit area with a length of 400 meters from the target of 600 meters.
