Visit Glodok, Rano Karno Reviews Chinese New Year Preparations

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno visited the Chinese New Year Bazaar and Dharma Bakti Temple in the Pancoran Chinatown area, Glodok Village, West Jakarta.

The visit was carried out to ensure the readiness of the Chinese New Year celebration as well as to absorb the aspirations of residents and traders ahead of the big day.

Rano said that the Glodok area has an important role in the Chinese New Year celebrations in Jakarta. In addition to being a center of economic activity, this area is also a cultural interaction space that is visited by many people every year.

"We are grateful, the new year brings a new atmosphere. Today we are preparing a big event, namely Chinese New Year. In fact, we have started a competition to determine the concept of Chinese New Year that will be displayed around HI Roundabout. The experience of the Jakarta Light Festival yesterday made Jakarta more lively," said Rano, Tuesday, January 20.

According to Rano, the Jakarta Chinese New Year 2026 celebration will involve the active participation of the community. The DKI Provincial Government opens space for residents to be directly involved, including in determining the concept of the celebration so that it is more inclusive and can be enjoyed by various groups.

He explained that preparations for the celebration of religious holidays were carried out across sectors by involving all regional apparatus organizations (OPD). Each service is asked to prepare a schedule of activities according to its duties and functions.

"This means that each service prepares a program. We will face Chinese New Year, Ramadan, and Eid al-Fitr. All of this must be maintained in the harmony of religious people. We agree that culturally we are different, but we are still one," he said.

Rano also emphasized the importance of maintaining a conducive atmosphere and togetherness in every religious celebration. According to him, public activities held by the government must be able to strengthen the sense of unity in the midst of the diversity of Jakarta residents.

During the visit, Rano had a dialogue with traders at the Chinese New Year Bazaar. He admitted that he wanted to ensure that the economic conditions of residents, especially small business actors, were maintained ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration.

"We also interacted with traders regarding the conditions and climate of the economy here, especially in welcoming Chinese New Year. The point is, we want to make sure that people are happy and enthusiastic about welcoming Chinese New Year," he concluded.

In addition to reviewing the bazaar, the series of activities for the visit of the Deputy Governor of DKI also included a barongsai performance, free health check-up, Larasita Land Office services, and a dialogue between the West Jakarta City Coordination Forum (Forkopimko) and residents of Glodok Village.
