2 Meter Flood in Karawang, a Resident of Karangligar Found Dead
KARAWANG - A resident affected by the flood in Karangligar Village, Karawang Regency, West Java, who was reported missing was found dead.
"The victim is known as Adi Suwardi, a resident of Pangasinan Village RT 001 RW 001, Karangligar Village, West Telukjambe District," said Head of Public Relations of Karawang Police, Ipda Cep Wildan, quoted by Antra, Tuesday, January 20.
He said that earlier or on Monday (19/1) at around 13.00 WIB, the victim had been reported missing by his family.
When the family reported, the victim was last seen walking alone around the flood-affected area.
Receiving a report from the family, the West Telukjambe Police along with the Karawang Police Satpolairud, BKO Ditpolairud West Java Police, Brimob, TNI, BPBD Karawang, and Tagana volunteers immediately carried out a search effort by combing the location using a rubber boat.
"The victim was found drowned in the flood area, on Monday (19/1) at around 17.00 WIB with a dead condition. Then an evacuation and handling was carried out according to procedures," he said.
After being evacuated, officers coordinated with relevant parties for the initial police examination process. The victim's body was then handed over to the family and then buried.
The police expressed their deepest condolences to the victim's family and appealed to the public to increase vigilance, especially in areas still affected by flooding, to avoid similar incidents.
The Karawang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said that flooding due to the overflow of two major rivers, Citarum and Cibeet, has submerged thousands of houses in 26 villages over the past few days.
According to the records of the Karawang BPBD, there are 3,162 houses that are submerged in the flood, spread across 26 villages and 12 sub-districts around Karawang. Meanwhile, the number of affected residents is 13,400 people.
Karangligar Village, West Telukjambe District is one of the areas that are quite severe floods, with water levels reaching almost 2 meters.
