InJourney Ready to Reduce 4,000 Tons of CO2 Emissions This Year
JAKARTA - The aviation and tourism state-owned enterprise holding, PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia or InJourney, targets to be able to reduce its carbon footprint by 4,000 tons of CO2 equivalent this year through an energy transition and environmental efficiency program across its entire business ecosystem.
InJourney's President Director, Maya Watono, said the scale of the holding's business continued to expand, making the need for emissions management increasingly urgent. He said there were 37 airports managed with 157 million people passing through.
Then, continued Maya, there will be 106 hotels managed by InJourney Hospitality this year from the current 39 hotels.
"So the carbon footprint produced is also very large, but we are trying to reduce this carbon footprint. Therefore, today we pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 4,000 tons of CO2, and we will implement this commitment this year," said Maya at the InJourney Office, Sarinah, Jakarta, Monday, January 19.
Maya explained that the emission reduction step was not done piecemeal, but was comprehensive across businesses from air to land, from airport terminals to hotel rooms.
"We are implementing it from various sectors. From the airport with solar panels, we will reduce electricity at the airport. Then also from hotel waste management, all our destinations will be converted to EVs," he explained.
Furthermore, Maya said the reforestation program was an additional key element for carbon absorption.
"Then also planting trees, we have mangroves in Mandalika, there are various tree planting in various assets. So this is a tangible action that we will do," said Maya.
Maya said, InJourney has also entered its fourth year since its official establishment on January 13, 2022. This holding became the first to be officially inaugurated directly by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as a multi-sector entity that unites the country's aviation and tourism.
"At that time it was inaugurated by President Jokowi in Mandalika, the only state-owned holding that was inaugurated by the President, because this is the only holding that was formed in multiple sectors," said Maya.
Maya said InJourney oversees a series of state-owned enterprises across industries, ranging from InJourney Hospitality (HIN), InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), InJourney Destination Management, to InJourney Airports which are the result of the consolidation of Angkasa Pura I and II. Then, Sarinah which operates in the retail sector, as a showcase for nationally curated UMKM products.
"For the first time in Indonesia there is an aviation and tourism holding from upstream to downstream. Usually BUMN holding is mining, plantations, single sectors, but this is the first time from upstream to downstream," he said.
