Reviewing the Karawang Flood, Vice President Gibran asks for priority for the health of the people

JAKARTA - Vice President (Wapres) Gibran Rakabuming, in reviewing the flood-affected location in Tanjungpura Village, West Karawang District, stated the importance of meeting the basic needs of affected residents, especially health services for vulnerable groups.

This was conveyed by Deputy Regent of Karawang Maslani on the sidelines of his activities accompanying Vice President Gibran in the agenda, Monday.

"The Vice President emphasized that health services should really be prioritized, especially for children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 19.

During the activity, the Vice President visited three evacuation posts, namely the DTA Al-Furqon Post, the Al-Furqon Mosque Post, and the Tanjungpura Village Hall Post.

At each location, he held dialogues with refugees and absorbed their aspirations and needs while in exile.

Apart from health services, said Maslani, the Vice President also instructed that the needs of other refugees be immediately recorded and met to accelerate emergency handling while supporting the recovery process.

"God willing, we will recap, starting from the collapsed houses, the need for portable toilets, to the lack of other logistics needed by the refugees," he said.

According to Maslani, the central government will also help provide various needs.

In the statement from the Presidential Secretariat, the Vice President's presence in the community is a tangible manifestation of the government's commitment to ensure that disaster management is carried out quickly, appropriately, and oriented towards the real needs of the people, especially related to health and safety aspects.

This step is in line with the vision and mission of President Prabowo Subianto in strengthening social protection, improving the government's response to emergency situations, and ensuring that disaster management is carried out in a coordinated and sustainable manner.

For information, the floods that hit a number of areas in Karawang Regency were triggered by heavy rainfall which caused the Citarum River and Cibeet River to overflow.

Based on data from the Karawang Regency BPBD, as many as 4,304 families or around 14,000 people were affected by the flood in 12 sub-districts.

Previously, the Vice President also visited flood-affected areas in Bekasi Regency as part of the government's response to the hydrometeorological disaster that hit the West Java region.
