President to the UK to Discuss Maritime, Elephant Conservation, and Foreign Campus, Continuing to Davos

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto departed for the United Kingdom on Sunday (18/1) afternoon with a cross-sector strategic agenda, ranging from maritime cooperation, elephant conservation in Aceh, to exploring the opening of foreign campuses in Indonesia, before continuing his journey to the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the President departed at around 13.20 WIB from Jakarta.

In the UK, the President is scheduled to meet with King Charles III and the British Prime Minister. This meeting was originally planned for December, but was shifted to January due to schedule adjustments.

The first main agenda is the signing of a maritime partnership in the maritime sector. This cooperation is focused on the development of fishing boats for Indonesian fishermen.

The second agenda concerns elephant conservation in Aceh Province. Prasetyo revealed that about eight to ten months ago the President personally handed over a forest concession on behalf of PT Pusam Tani Lestari to the government. The area was then converted into an elephant conservation corridor through cooperation with King Charles III.

The third agenda is exploring cooperation in higher education with a number of leading British universities that are members of the Russell Group. The focus is on the possibility of opening a campus in Indonesia to catch up in the fields of technology, science, and medicine.

"The entire agenda in the UK is estimated to last about two days," Prasetyo told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta, Monday, January 19.

From the UK, the President continued his journey to Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum. The President is scheduled to be one of the speakers at the forum as part of efforts to open up opportunities for global cooperation.

When asked about the possibility of meeting with Donald Trump, Prasetyo said there was no official confirmation. "We haven't received an update regarding the agenda of the meeting," he said.
