Dozens of Houses in Jembrana Damaged by a Whirlwind

Jembrana - Dozens of residents' houses in Jembrana Regency, Bali were slightly damaged by a tornado that hit the area on Sunday (18/1) afternoon.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Jembrana I Putu Agus Arthana Putra said that 14 houses of residents in Banjar Anyar Tengah, Penyaringan Village, Mendoyo District, Jembrana were affected by the tornado that came with the rain.

"We have distributed assistance such as tarpaulins. Residents also carried out self-repair by replacing damaged tiles. There were no casualties in this incident," he said, Monday, January 19.

Because extreme weather often occurs, his party appeals to the public to be alert, especially when dark clouds are visible.

"Avoid being under trees that are prone to collapse or fragile buildings, especially on the roof," he said.

He also asked the public to immediately report to the BPBD Office if a disaster occurs, so that officers can respond quickly to provide assistance, as well as provide basic necessities.

After the disaster caused by a tornado, residents in Banjar Anyar Tengah carried out a gotong royong to repair the roof of their neighbor's house that was damaged.

Perbekel or Head of Penyaringan Village I Made Dresta said that in addition to Banjar Anyar Tengah, the tornado also hit the settlement of residents in Banjar Anyar Kaja.

"In Banjar Anyar Kaja, one house was damaged. Most of the damaged houses were in Banjar Anyar Tengah," he said.

According to him, the tornado was the first time it had occurred in his area, causing damage to dozens of residents' houses.
