Good News for Jakarta Skaters, a New Skatepark Will Be Made in the Tambora Flyover Tunnel
JAKARTA - The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) plans to change the area under the flyover in Tambora District into a skateboard (skateboard) or skatepark and public open space.
Deputy Mayor of West Jakarta, Yuli Hartono, in Jakarta, said that the construction would be executed immediately in 2026.
"West Jakarta currently has a target to become a Child-Friendly City by 2027, so the creation of this skatepark facility is also one of its programs," he said.
He added that the design of the skatepark will be inclusive and child-friendly.
"Later in the design of the development, it will be ensured that it is not only a sports facility, but also a public space facility that is child-friendly," he said.
Meanwhile, the Tambora Sub-district Head, Pangestu Aji, said that the plan started from the aspirations of the people, especially the youth who needed a platform to channel creativity and positive activities.
"This is the beginning of the input and needs of the people, especially the youth. They really need an open space," he said.
According to him, Tambora, which has 11 villages with high population density at present, only has two Child-Friendly Integrated Public Spaces (RPTRA), namely in Kalijodo and Krendang.
"In addition to the small area and many residents, they find it difficult to convey positive activities. It is hoped that with the skatepark, their creativity can be realized," he said.
He said there were two options for government assets that were being studied in the current planning phase.
"Meanwhile, the information we have, the option is under the 'flyover' of the Two Bridge and also Jayakarta Park on the side of Latumeten Street, opposite Seasons City Mall," he said.
However, he emphasized that of the two options, only one location would be selected after further technical studies.
"One will be built, but the option is temporarily in two alternative locations. Later, the development will continue and technical studies may be considered again," he said.
