Two Puskesmas in Aceh were severely damaged after the Sumatra disaster, the PU Ministry is ready to build a new one.

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) will build two health centers in Aceh Province, which are severely damaged and unusable because they are buried in mud about two meters and are very close to the river channel.

The two health centers in question are the Lokop Health Center in East Aceh and the Laklak Health Center in South East Aceh.

"We have to build two health centers quickly because the existing condition is no longer usable. The building must be relocated and built anew," said Minister PU Dody Hanggodo, as quoted from a written statement, Monday, January 19.

To accelerate the recovery of health services, the construction of temporary health centers is planned to use a modular building system, so that it can be completed in a short time and immediately serve the community.

However, the construction of the new health center will be carried out after an official directive from the Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

After that, the PU Ministry will be responsible for the physical construction of the building, while filling health services such as medical personnel, equipment and medicines will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).

In addition, the PU Ministry also supports the provision of clean water for health facilities through the construction of boreholes.

One of them is at the Central General Hospital (RSUP) Dr. M. Djamil Padang, West Sumatra, which is currently still under construction to ensure the availability of clean water with health quality standards.

The PU Ministry will continue to synergize with the Ministry of Health and local governments (Pemda) in ensuring that health facilities in disaster-affected areas in Sumatra can recover quickly, safely and sustainably.

Based on the disaster handling report as of January 16, 2026, the Ministry of PU has carried out activities to clean public facilities, including health facilities in dozens of affected locations.

For Aceh Province, the cleaning was carried out in a number of regencies, such as Aceh Tamiang, Bener Meriah, Pidie and Pidie Jaya, with progress ranging from completed to still in the construction phase.

Meanwhile, in North Sumatra Province (Sumut) there are five public facilities that are in the process of being cleaned and in West Sumatra (Sumbar) there are 12 cleaning locations with seven locations completed and five locations still on-going.
