People's Movement Declares to Become a Political Party, Anies Baswedan as President

JAKARTA - The community organization Gerakan Rakyat after declaring itself a political party expressed hope that former DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Rasyid Baswedan could become President of the Republic of Indonesia.

"We want that the national leader in the future is Insyaallah Anies Rasyid Baswedan," said the General Chair of the People's Movement Sahrin Hamid at the 2026 People's Movement National Working Meeting (Rakernas) in Jakarta, Sunday, January 19.

In addition, Sahrin said that the direction of the People's Movement's struggle in the future is Anies Baswedan.

"It is clear that our struggle in the future is that in any condition, Anies Baswedan is the People's Movement and the People's Movement is Anies Baswedan," said Saharin, closed by Antara.

Anies was given a membership card number 0001 by Sahrin on December 17, 2025.

Meanwhile, he said the People's Movement targeted February 2026 to be registered with the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia as a political party.

Therefore, he invited all cadres of the People's Movement to be militant in order to fulfill the conditions that must be met as a political party.

"Insyaallah we will be able to establish a political party, the People's Movement Party, and fulfill all the requirements requested by the state," he said optimistically.
