People Can Buy SPHP Rice up to 25 kg per Person
JAKARTA - The rice Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program entered the new year with a looser policy. The National Food Agency (Bapanas) revealed plans to expand the maximum limit for the purchase of SPHP rice to 25 kilograms (kg) per person, making affordable rice prices more easily accessible to the public.
The Secretary General of Bapanas, Sarwo Edhymen, explained that his party was formulating updates and sharpening the technical instructions for the distribution of SPHP rice in 2026 so that absorption would be more optimal. One of them is by widening the maximum purchase limit.
"Initially, the maximum purchase limit was two packs per consumer or 10 kilograms. In the future, it is planned that the maximum purchase limit for SPHP rice in 2026 can be five packs per consumer or 25 kg," Sarwo said in an official statement, Sunday, January 18.
According to Sarwo, this policy also opens wider access for residents to get SPHP rice, not only in traditional markets, but also in modern retail to institutions that carry out distribution programs.
"So we have opened SPHP rice for all people, both for modern markets and traditional markets as well as institutions that will carry out the SPHP program. Currently, it is also available at modern retail outlets," he explained.
In addition, Sarwo also emphasized that the quality of SPHP program rice is not inferior to medium rice in the general market.
"Its quality is on par with medium rice in the market and of course the price is cheaper, so it can be affordable for the community," he explained.
Bapanas also asked the public to actively report if they found SPHP rice of poor quality so that it could be replaced immediately.
"If you find that the quality of SPHP rice is not up to standard, please immediately report it for replacement," he said.
For information, in the National Food Balance Projection for 2026 update as of January, national rice production in January can be at 1.79 million tons and February can reach 2.98 million tons. Meanwhile, the peak of the national harvest is estimated in March and April which can reach up to 5 million tons for each month.
