Extensive Flooding, KAI Cancel 38 Train Journeys

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI reported that the flood conditions on a number of railway tracks had worsened until today.

Therefore, KAI decided to cancel 38 train trips, especially in the work area of Daop 4 Semarang and Daop 1 Jakarta.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that heavy rain and high flooding made some lines unsafe to pass through. He said, KAI continues to carry out intensive monitoring and thorough technical inspections to ensure travel safety.

"The safety of train travel and customers is the top priority as more flood points and high potential for delays," he said in an official statement, Sunday, January 18.

Anne said KAI also engineered the pattern of operations, including route diversion, and speed restrictions to ensure safety aspects.

"Until the cancellation of train travel so that safety risks can be avoided," said Anne.

In addition, KAI also deployed infrastructure and facilities officers to normalize the track, strengthen the road body, and coordinate with local governments, regional authorities, and technical institutions to accelerate flood handling around the rail line.

38 Train Trips Cancelled

Based on operational evaluation, KAI canceled 38 trips on Sunday, January 18, including Argo Bromo Anggrek, Argo Muria, Argo Sindoro, Matarmaja, Taksaka, Parahyangan, Purwojaya, and Menoreh.

The cancellation was made because the level of delay was very high and the line could not be safely passed.

KAI expressed its deepest apologies to all customers for the inconvenience caused by this condition.

"As a form of responsibility to customers, KAI provides a 100 percent refund of the ticket fee in accordance with the provisions," said Anne.

Ticket fee refunds can be made with the following conditions:

• Ticket fee refund no later than 7 (seven) days from the date of cancellation.

• Customers who are not willing to continue their journey due to route diversion, engineering of operating patterns, or the impact of delays are entitled to a 100 percent refund, including for through tickets or round-trip tickets managed by the KAI Group.

• Ticket fee refunds can be made through the station ticket booth and Contact Center 121.

• Submission through the Contact Center 121 can be done through call and VOIP services on the Access by KAI application, specifically for the return of 100 percent duty.
