Commission II of the DPR will ask experts about the revision of the Election Law

Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Muhammad Khozin, said his party would schedule a Public Hearing (RDPU) to seek input from experts, academics and election observers regarding the revision of the Election Law (UU). The meeting will be scheduled in the next two to three months.

"To maintain the spirit of meaningful participation. We invite you to enrich the treasure of this national discourse," said Khozin in a discussion titled 'Regional Head Elected by DPRD?' quoted from Mardani Ali Sera Official YouTube, Saturday, January 17.

Khozin explained that the RPDU was in order to ask experts for their views on changes to the electoral law. It is also a space for the public and academics to criticize and provide input to Commission II of the DPR regarding improvements to the electoral system in the future.

Later, said Khozin, the meeting will be open to the public so that the public can monitor the discussion of the revision of the electoral law. "The public can follow directly and experts can also sit together," said Khozin.

Furthermore, the PKB legislator emphasized that until now there has been no decision regarding the model or mechanism of the election system that will be used in the 2029 elections.

Khozin said that all faction representatives in Commission II of the DPR had not given their views. However, he ensured that if each faction had given their views, they would be conveyed to the DPR RI.

"Later the decision will be made by the leadership, continue to discuss the revision of the Election Law through Commission II. If, for example, it will be passed through the Pansus, it will be submitted to the Pansus," concluded Khozin.

Previously, the Chairperson of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, said that his party was not in a hurry to discuss the revision of the Election Law. He emphasized that the leadership of the House of Representatives still saw the ongoing communication in the Commission.

"The revision of the electoral law has not been discussed, this is only the opening of the trial, so we will first see the situation after this opening, how it is from the related commission," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 13.
