MIND ID Targets Battery Cell Production Facilities to Start Operating by the End of 2026

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Mining Industry Holding (MIND ID) targets that battery cell (battery cells), module, and battery pack (pack) production facilities will start operating commercially by the end of 2026.

MIND ID through PT Industri Baterai Indonesia (PT IBI) has cooperated with the consortium of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, Brunp, Lygend (CBL) to form a joint venture company (joint venture) namely PT Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia Battery (CATIB), to be the spearhead in the development of the Integrated Battery Ecosystem.

MIND ID President Director Maroef Sjamsoeddin explained that CATIB is currently developing the Battery Cells, Module & Pack Production Facility, which is planned to have an initial capacity of 6.9 GWh in the first phase and will be expanded to reach a total capacity of 15 GWh in the second phase.

"The project built in the Artha Industrial Hills (AIH) area, Karawang Regency with a total area of 43 Ha, consists of 2 main facilities," he said, quoted on Saturday, January 17.

First, continued Maroef, the Module & Pack (MP) Plant whose Groundbreaking Ceremony was attended by President Prabowo Subianto in June 2025, and the construction and installation of Battery Manufacture Equipment was completed in January 2026. This is a core facility, in the form of a series of machines that work in an automated system to assemble batteries into ready-to-use products for the electric vehicle industry.

The two Cell Plants, whose construction is underway. This is a facility to produce basic battery cell units, which will then be ready to be assembled into modules and battery packs for electric vehicles (EV) and other energy applications.

"We will continue to collaborate with various parties in the development of an integrated battery ecosystem, in order to provide greater benefits for the country and the community," he said.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT IBI Aditya Farhan Arif emphasized that his party was strongly committed to overseeing the development of the national battery industry so that it could grow integrated and globally competitive.

"The significant progress on the CATIB project today reflects the readiness of infrastructure, technology, and strategic collaboration that have been built to support the formation of a competitive and sustainable battery industry," said Aditya.
