Answer the Challenge of Quality Journalists, Forum of Formed Journalists in West Jakarta
JAKARTA - The West Jakarta Journalists Forum (Forlis JB) was inaugurated as a platform for quality journalists who are able to build cross-agency communication and collaboration by prioritizing public interests.
This forum was formed in the midst of a crisis of journalist human resources in the City of West Jakarta. Forlis JB was also formed by dozens of journalists who are committed to supporting the policies of the City Government of Jakarta under the leadership of Mayor Iin Mutmainah.
Kornelius Naibaho was also appointed as the Chairman of the West Jakarta Journalists Forum. The former Chairman of the West Jakarta PWI was appointed with the task of restoring the dignity of journalists who cover in the City of West Jakarta.
"Only journalists with qualified human resources can become members of Forlis West Jakarta. We will reject it firmly if there is a background of a parking attendant as a journalist, a mechanic as a journalist, a thug as a journalist, a building inspector as a journalist, an organization as a journalist, a corrupt journalist and others. We prohibit print journalists who do not have the ability to write, communicate and just follow," said the man who was greeted by Kornel.
This forum was also formed in response to the need for balanced, accurate reporting, and upholding the code of journalistic ethics.
The Chairman of the West Jakarta Journalists Forum, Kornelius Naibaho, said that this forum is expected to be a common space to strengthen the solidarity and professionalism of journalists, as well as to bridge constructive communication between the press and stakeholders in the West Jakarta area.
Furthermore, said Kornel, Forlis West Jakarta will schedule activities that build and monitor the policies of the Mayor of West Jakarta Iin Mutmainah and the other four pillars, namely the Jakbar District Attorney's Office, Jakbar Police, Jakbar District Court, and Kodim 0503/West Jakarta.
Meanwhile, a number of journalists who attended welcomed the formation of the forum. They assessed that the existence of the West Jakarta Journalists Forum could be a collective force in maintaining press independence, supporting a climate of openness to public information in West Jakarta and educating journalists to stakeholders in the City of West Jakarta.
Haris Siburian, one of the members of Forlis Jakbar, emphasized that all members agreed to appoint Kornelius Naibaho as the Chairman of Forlis Jakbar, because he was considered to have successfully brought the good name of journalists when he served as Chairman of PWI Jakbar.
"We hope that Chairman Kornel will focus more on leading Forlis Jakbar so that the prestige of journalists can shine again," suggested Haris.
In the future, the West Jakarta Journalists Forum is committed to synergizing with the local government, law enforcement officers, and all elements of society without neglecting the principle of press independence as a pillar of democracy.
