India Open 2026: Only Jonatan advances to the semifinals

JAKARTA - Indonesia only has one representative left at the 2026 India Open. Jonatan Christie is the only mainstay of the Red and White who managed to advance to the semifinals.

Jonatan, who is the third seed of the tournament, defeated Christo Popov - the fifth seed - two games in a row with a score of 21-19 and 21-19 in a tight match that lasted 52 minutes at the Indira Gandhi Arena, New Delhi, Friday, January 16, 2026.

The victory also improved Jonatan's record against Popov. Currently, the Indonesian men's singles are still behind 1-2 in the clash against Popov.

Jonatan is then waiting for the Singaporean singles, Loh Kean Yew, in the semifinals on Saturday, January 17, 2026. This tournament will be Jonatan's chance to win his first title this year after only reaching the semifinals at the 2026 Malaysia Open last week.

Unfortunately, Jonatan's journey failed to be followed by Princess Kusuma Wardani. Facing the tournament's first seed and world number one, An Se-young, the princess fell 16-21 and 8-21 in a match that lasted 37 minutes.

The defeat leaves the Princess's record against An Se-young still without a win from eight clashes until the 2026 India Open.

Indonesia only sent four representatives to the 2026 India Open, but only two made it to the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the rest, namely Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani stopped in the second round, and Lanny Tri Mayasari/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi returned in the first round.
