India Gives Apple Final Warning over Antitrust Case Delay

JAKARTA - The Indian Competition Commission (CCI) has issued a final warning to Apple for its delay in responding to an antitrust investigation over the past year.

The institution criticized Apple's actions, which repeatedly asked for an extension of time, thus hindering the completion of the legal process. In fact, this investigation has been underway for several years.

The investigation began with a complaint filed by Match Group and several local start-ups in India in 2022. Then, in 2024, the investigative team concluded that Apple had unfairly abused its position in the iOS app store market.

To resolve the case, Apple is required to submit a formal objection as well as details of important financial data to the authorities. However, the technology giant continues to delay the process for various reasons.

This problem continued after Apple objected to the potential fine, which could reach 38 billion US dollars. Apple had tried to suspend the entire case in the Indian court until the rules on calculating fines.

However, the request was rejected by the CCI. In its confidential order, the CCI stated that the flexibility granted so far could not be continued indefinitely.

They stressed that Apple's actions had undermined the legal procedures in force in the country. The authorities have given Apple until next week to provide the requested official response.

If Apple remains silent, CCI threatens to continue legal proceedings and unilateral decision-making. On the other hand, Apple is rumored to intend to wait for the schedule of the trial with the judge on January 27, 2026 before making further decisions.
