Anticipate Flood Following, Sudin SDA Jakut Kebut Dredging Lumpur Reservoir, River to Connecting Channel

JAKARTA - The North Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-Directorate continues to dredge to normalize a number of reservoirs, rivers and connecting channels (PHB) in North Jakarta to anticipate subsequent flooding when bad weather strikes.

"We will continue to dredge. We will continue to dredge to increase the capacity of the reservoir, the reservoir, the river. We will do a lot of dredging," said North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Director Heria Suwandi when confirmed, Friday, January 16.

Heria said that from the results of the check by his party, it was found that there was a subsidence in the Angke River due to sediment of mud so that it had to be dredged.

"For example, in Kali Angke, Kali Angke is naturally dredged. We are dredging to open a new area, namely in the BKB segment. Kali Angke is one of those affected by rob, so the sediment (mud) is already high," he said.

Heria explained that a number of rivers in North Jakarta are still a priority for dredging because there are many sediments so that the capacity of the river when storing water is decreasing.

"Many times in North Jakarta that must be given priority to dredging. This means that dredging must continue, dredging using excavators," he said.

Heria emphasized that he would provide the best service to the community, especially in North Jakarta, in terms of flood control.

"We will also increase the capacity of pumps, increase the capacity of channels, dredging in reservoirs, dredging in macro rivers, repairs and drainage of channels will also be increased," he said.

Meanwhile, based on the records of the North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Directorate, throughout 2025 to early 2026, his party has dredged 13 Kali (rivers) in North Jakarta.

Then dredging of 10 connecting channels (PHB) has also been carried out.

"A total of 5 reservoirs, namely the Pluit Reservoir, the North Sunter Reservoir, the Muara Angke Reservoir, the Kodamar Embung, and the TNI Babek Embung, have also been dredged," he said.

Meanwhile, the dredging that is still running until today is the Pluit Dam, Danau Cincin Dam, North Sunter Dam, Babek Embankment.

The Kali that is still being dredged is the Old Cakung River with several dredging segments.

"Kali Adem, Kali Semper Barat, Kali Pluit Karang Barat, Kali Betik, Kali Bokor and Kali Ancol are still going on. For the drainage of the PHB channel that is still running, there is a PHB channel in the East Kelapa Lilin, the PHB channel in Warung Jengkol, the PHB channel in Cacing Raya and the PHB channel in Karang Bolong," he said.
