Light Rain Expected to Flood Most Major Cities Today
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts light rain will hit most major cities in Indonesia on Friday.
BMKG Praktirawan, Puji Sibuea, explained that the weather was predicted to be cloudy in Banda Aceh, heavy clouds in Medan and Tanjung Pinang, and smoke or fog in the Pekanbaru area.
Meanwhile, light rain is potentially occurring in Padang, Jambi, Pangkalpinang, Palembang, and Bandar Lampung.
"Bengkulu City has the potential for moderate intensity rain," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 16.
Turning to Java Island, the weather is predicted to be light rain in Serang City, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, while Semarang City will experience moderate intensity rain.
Moving to the Kalimantan region, Pontianak and Palangka Raya are predicted to be cloudy, while Banjarmasin has the potential for light rain.
"Be aware of the lightning that can occur in Tanjung Selor and Samarinda," said Puji.
Moving to the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, the weather is predicted to be light rain in the Denpasar, Mataram, and Kupang regions.
Then, for Sulawesi Island, the weather is predicted to be cloudy in Manado and Kendari City, while Mamuju will be covered with thick clouds. The city of Palu is predicted to have hazy air.
"Makassar City will be showered with rain with light intensity," he said.
For the Ambon region, Ternate is predicted to be thick clouds, while Ambon is predicted to be light rain.
Meanwhile, for the Papua region, Nabire City is predicted to be thick clouds, while Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke will be light rain.
BMKG also reminded the public to be on alert for heavy to very heavy rain in the regions of Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku.
