Jambi Governor Sends Team to Investigate Student Who Beat Teacher

JAMBI - The Governor of Jambi has sent an investigation team to collect objective information related to the anarchist actions of a number of students against an English teacher at SMKN 3 Tanjung Jabung Timur (Tanjab Timur) Agus Saputra on Tuesday (13/1).

"The team from the provincial Diknas has been ordered to go there (today), we will see what the results are, I want this problem not to spread everywhere. The incident is very regrettable," said Jambi Governor Al Haris as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 16.

According to the governor, the beating incident should not have happened because it was the same as tarnishing the world of education. This problem should be resolved through peaceful means (family).

"Because we want the world of education not to be tarnished. So I think this is an incident that I consider to be bad in the world of education. If the teacher is wrong, we will sanction it," he said.

The teacher of SMKN 3 Tanjab Timur, Agus Saputra, the victim of the beating, explained that the incident began when one of the students in the class reprimanded him with inappropriate language.

At that time he was outside the room, then heard the words of a student who was judged to be unnatural, he immediately approached the classroom where the sound came from.

"After that I went to class, I asked who called me like that. He (the student) immediately challenged me, finally I immediately slapped his face," said Agus.

He continued, during the student's break he approached him again by issuing a challenging sentence, at that time there was a verbal altercation until finally there was an act of beating against him.

Regarding the weapon (sickle) he carried, Agus admitted that the weapon was a school asset, considering that the school was a vocational school of concentration in the field of agriculture (SMK Pertanian, ed).

The weapon he was holding, his goal was only to give a warning so that they dispersed.

"I use it just to bully them to disperse, there is no other intention than that. If it wasn't like that, maybe there would be another bad incident happening to me," he explained again.

The Chairman of the Association of Teachers of the Republic of Indonesia (PGRI) Jambi Province, Nanang Sunarya, organizationally regretted the student's violent act against the teacher. Regretting the words or utterances that hurt the feelings of students.

Nanang asked educators to maintain communication patterns, and actions to always reflect the example.

The PGRI Jambi Province invites all educators to maintain speech, maintain attitudes, thinking patterns, and actions in a calm and wise manner in the learning environment and the school environment.

"The PGRI Jambi Province hopes that similar events will not be repeated and become a joint learning for all parties, so that the educational environment remains a safe, comfortable, and dignified space," hoped Nanang.
