India Open 2026: Sabar/Reza Fail to Reach Quarterfinals

JAKARTA - The men's doubles Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani failed to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2026 BWF Super 750 India Open.

The pair, who are seeded seventh, returned in the second round of the tournament after losing to Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi (Japan) in a two-game match 15-21, 15-21.

"Today we couldn't get out of the pressure. My touch and Reza's are also very difficult on the field, so I can't do much," said Sabar in a statement received.

Sabar/Reza previously also got unsatisfactory results when playing in the 2026 Malaysia Open last week. There, their journey stopped in the quarterfinal.

Furthermore, the pair who occupy the eighth place in the world will play in the Indonesia Masters 2026 next week at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.

"We hope next week will be better than the previous tournament. Because playing at Istora, there are also many supporters who are present, so we want to get the maximum result," said Reza.

Indonesia managed to place two representatives in the 2026 India Open quarterfinal, namely the men's singles Jonatan Christie and the women's singles Putri Kusuma Wardani.

The quarterfinal match will take place on Friday, January 16, 2026. Jonatan will face Christo Popov from France, while Putri meets world number one, An Se-young.
