Miami Police Issue Arrest Warrant for Gervonta Davis

JAKARTA - The Miami police have officially issued an arrest warrant for WBA lightweight world champion boxer Gervonta Davis for alleged domestic violence that occurred in October last year.

The Miami Gardens Police Department said in a press conference on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, local time, that they would work with the US Marshals' Fugitive Task Force to find Davis.

"As a result of the hard work and perseverance of our special victim unit, an arrest warrant for Gervonta Bryant Davis has also been issued," the police said in a statement, as reported by BBC Sport.

The arrest warrant for the 31-year-old boxer was issued after a civil lawsuit was filed by his ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel.

The lawsuit accuses Davis of maltreatment, illegal detention, and attempted kidnapping, which caused the victim serious mental distress.

"The results of the investigation show that Mr. Davis used violence to detain and try to take the victim out of the location against his will," said a follow-up statement from the police.

Davis allegedly grabbed the victim by the back of her hair with one hand and by the neck with the other. The question made Rossel demand compensation of 50 thousand US dollars or approximately Rp. 844 million.

The boxer, who was born in Baltimore, United States, was scheduled to fight YouTuber Jake Paul, who has just turned to boxing, in an exhibition match in Miami on November 14, 2025. However, the duel was canceled after a lawsuit was filed.

The arrest warrant was issued six months after a lawsuit for domestic violence against Davis was dismissed by another ex-girlfriend.

Davis was also previously arrested on charges of domestic abuse in February 2020 and December 2022.

In addition, he served 44 days in prison in 2023 after violating the terms of a 90-day house arrest sentence related to a hit-and-run case in his hometown of Baltimore in November 2020.
