Rano Karno Acknowledges the Demolition of the Broken Monorail Pole in Senayan Needs the Blessing of the Ministry of Home Affairs

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has begun demolishing the broken monorail pole along Jalan HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta. However, the demolition has not targeted the monorail pole in the Senayan area, specifically on Jalan Asia Afrika.

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno admitted that the DKI Provincial Government could not immediately dismantle the monorail pole in Senayan because the status of the road authority was under the central government.

"Senayan that I remember, that I know is the authority of the Setneg," said Rano in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, Thursday, January 15.

Unlike Jalan Rasuna Said, which is under the authority of the DKI Provincial Government, Jalan Asia Afrika is a national road whose management is in the hands of the central government.

Therefore, every step of enforcement or demolition of infrastructure in the area must go through coordination and approval of the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg).

"But we are also trying to make sure that some of the existing poles can be used for billboards. But maybe not all," said Rano.

According to Rano, the existence of the monorail pole that is stuck in the Senayan area, including around the Parliament Complex, has long been in the spotlight because it is considered to interfere with the aesthetics and function of public spaces.

So, Rano emphasized, for monorail poles that are considered no longer to have a function and actually interfere, the DKI Provincial Government will encourage the central government to immediately take enforcement measures.

"I was in the DPR. So if we look at the back door of the DPR, there are pillars that also interfere. Well, maybe that's what we can also ask for immediately, yes, the term is cut down, lah," he said.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government officially started demolishing the broken monorail pole along Jalan HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta on Wednesday, January 14. The demolition was marked by the cutting of one of the monorail poles that had been abandoned for more than two decades.

The process was carried out together with a number of parties, ranging from former DKI Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno, Head of the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office Patris Yusrian Jaya, to representatives of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

In total, the DKI Provincial Government allocated around Rp. 102 billion in this work. Meanwhile, the special cost for cutting the monorail pole is only Rp. 254 million. Then, the rest is used for the overall arrangement of the area. The arrangement includes repairing the road body, water channels, sidewalks, parks, public street lighting, and other supporting facilities along Jalan Rasuna Said.
