DKI Provincial Government to Relocate Hundreds of Residents Living on TPU Land in Kalideres for Cemetery Expansion

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will expand the cemetery again. In the near future, the cemetery land that will be expanded will target the Kalideres District, West Jakarta. However, at this time, there are still hundreds of residents who make the land their residence.

It is recorded that there are 248 KK who have been occupying the land of the public cemetery (TPU) in Kalideres. In the TPU of Kamal Village, there are 127 KK with a total of 113 KK with DKI KTP and the rest are from Tangerang and other areas.

Meanwhile, in Pegadungan Village, there are at least 121 households occupying the land with a total of 36 households with DKI KTP and 85 households without DKI Jakarta KTP.

The Mayor of West Jakarta Iin Mutmainnah said that his party had reviewed the Kamal and Pegadungan TPU land. It was decided that residents who occupied by building a place of residence would be relocated. So far, there are still 21 KK who have expressed their readiness to be relocated.

"There are 21 KK with DKI KTP who are ready to be relocated before Ramadan," Iin told reporters, Thursday, January 15.

They will be relocated to Rusunawa Pesakih and Rusunawa Tegal Alur. Iin claimed that this relocation is aimed at ensuring that the residents can occupy decent, healthy, safe, and comfortable housing.

"We have coordinated with the managers of Rusunawa so that the facilities and infrastructure in the Rusunawa units can really be used well," he said.

In the plan for the crackdown and relocation, the West Jakarta City Government has set a number of stages that must be prepared. Iin said the relocation was scheduled for March 17, 2026.

"We set March 17, 2026 as the implementation time. There should be an option to relocate to a shared apartment (Rusun), both the closest and the alternative if the capacity is not sufficient," he said.

He also asked the Sub-Department of Housing and Residential Areas (PRKP) to ensure that all housing units are ready to be inhabited, not only in terms of buildings, but also cleanliness and environmental conditions.

"Make sure the unit is clean and there are no items left behind. In addition to the unit, the environmental aspect of the Rusun must also be considered," said Iin.

In addition to housing readiness, logistical and social support are also a concern. Data from the West Jakarta City Government shows that of the total affected residents, there are around 200 people, including 25 toddlers, 30 elderly, and one disabled person who needs a wheelchair.

"I also ask the Health Service Tribe to be present to conduct a free H-1 health examination before relocation," said Iin.

Iin emphasized that after the relocation and enforcement process was completed, the 65-hectare TPU land must be immediately returned in accordance with its provisions as a cemetery area.

As is known, Jakarta is facing the threat of a cemetery land crisis. It is predicted that in the next 3 years, Jakarta will no longer have cemetery land if there is no increase in the number of plots and expansion of TPU.

The DKI Provincial Government is also having difficulty finding land to be used as a new public cemetery (TPU). Because, currently the price of land in Jakarta is getting more expensive.

Jakarta has 80 TPU spread across 5 cities. Unfortunately, 69 TPU are full and only accept the service of a temporary tomb, which is usually done for one family. This, according to him, is a temporary solution to the lack of tomb land.

Currently, there are 11 TPU that are still serving new burials. In East Jakarta, there are TPU Rawa Terate, TPU Cipayung, TPU Cilangkap, TPU Bamboo Apus, and TPU Cipinang Besar.

Meanwhile, in North Jakarta, it is at the Rorotan TPU. Then, South Jakarta at the Tanah Kusir TPU, Srengseng Sawah TPU, and Kampung Kandang TPU. West Jakarta at the Tegal Alur TPU, and Pengadungan TPU.
