Meta Closes Three Game Studios, Focuses Investment on Wearable Devices

JAKARTA - Meta confirmed that it would close its three game studios, Armature Studio and Twisted Pixel, which were acquired in October 2022, as well as Sanzaru Games, which was acquired in February 2020.

"Last month we said that we were shifting some of our investment from the Metaverse to wearable devices. This is part of that effort," a Meta spokesperson told Gematsu.

This news comes after the tech giant plans to cut more than 1,000 employees from its Reality Labs business, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Armature Studio is known for the VR port of Resident Evil 4 for Oculus Studios as well as the games Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate and Where the Heart Leads, but has not released any new games since being acquired by Meta.

Meanwhile, Sanzaru Games, is the studio behind the development of g Asgard's Wrath and Asgard's Wrath 2 under Oculus Studios, and was previously known for Sony's release games such as Secret Agent Clank, The Sly Collection, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, as well as the Sonic Boom series for SEGA.

Meanwhile, Twisted Pixel made Marvel's Deadpool VR for Oculus Studios and is widely known through Xbox 360 games such as 'Splosion Man and Ms. Splosion Man.

Meta revealed that the closure of this studio is another attempt by the company to cut costs, and emphasizes its focus on growth of wearable devices this year.

"We plan to reinvest those savings to support growth in wearables this year," the spokesperson added.
