Controlling Excess Hunger, Semaglutide is Effective in Treating Obesity
JAKARTA - Obesity management can be done through various approaches, ranging from regulating eating patterns, increasing physical activity, to behavioral changes and medical interventions.
However, for some people, the effort is not always easy. The main challenge that obese people often face is the difficulty of controlling hunger and excessive eating, so the weight loss process often stops in the middle of the road.
Obese people generally have the characteristics of feeling hungry quickly or having difficulty reaching a sense of fullness.
This condition causes calorie intake to continue to increase and is exacerbated by a sedentary lifestyle that triggers fat accumulation.
Therefore, long-term weight loss requires a holistic approach, not only focusing on calorie reduction, but also sustainable behavioral and mindset changes.
As a short-term aid to control appetite, Semaglutide is considered effective in overcoming obesity. Semaglutide itself is a drug that works by activating the GLP-1 receptor which plays a role in regulating blood sugar levels and hunger.
This mechanism helps the body signal fullness faster, so that patients can better control their meal portions.
Referring to the BBC Indonesia article, a number of world health authorities such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in Great Britain state that Semaglutide is safe and effective to help control weight.
This drug has obtained a distribution permit from the FDA and was subsequently approved by BPOM in May and June 2025.
Although it is considered safe and effective, health authorities emphasize that the use of Semaglutide injections must be carried out under medical supervision and combined with the implementation of a low-calorie diet and a structured physical activity program to achieve optimal and sustainable results.
Various clinical studies show that Semaglutide is able to significantly help weight loss. In addition to supporting weight control, this therapy also plays a role in increasing insulin secretion and suppressing the release of glucagon from the pancreas to help maintain blood sugar levels.
Improvements in metabolic profiles, such as reductions in blood pressure and cholesterol, also provide additional benefits by reducing the risk of obesity complications, as well as providing a protective effect on heart and kidney health.
"This program is designed as a comprehensive weight loss program, not just injections, in line with the vision and mission of the LIGHT Group in providing safe medical-based services with sustainable results. With strict screening, determination of personal doses, guidance from nutritionists, and regular monitoring, we ensure that patients get a safe, controlled, and sustainable weight loss experience," said Anna Yesito Wibowo, CMO LIGHT Group, parent company of LIGHThouse Clinic in a SemaSlim statement to VOI, recently.
Dr. Guadelupe Maria Melissa, Certified Obesity & Weight Management Consultant LIGHT Group, added that through the SemaSlim treatment at LIGHThouse Clinic, patients undergo the entire recommended process and are directly supervised by a doctor and carried out by health workers to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the program.
The dose is determined personally based on the results of screening the condition and health of each individual. Patients also receive dietary guidance tailored to their characteristics and needs by a nutritionist, as well as periodic and intensive supervision through regular evaluation sessions with doctors and nutritionists so that adjustments to doses, diets, and weight loss progress remain in accordance with the target.
