Brian McKnight Says Indonesian Listeners Are the Biggest Contributors to Streaming His Songs

JAKARTA - American R&B singer Brian McKnight has set foot in Jakarta again to greet his fans through a concert titled "An Evening with Brian McKnight".

This is McKnight's fourth visit to Jakarta since 2023. He also revealed the emotional reason behind his high frequency of visits to Indonesia.

McKnight explicitly stated that Indonesia has the largest digital audience base for his works around the world.

Statistical data from digital music player platforms is a tangible proof of listener loyalty in Indonesia which surpasses other countries, including its home country.

This phenomenon makes the singer of "Back at One" feel that he has a strong inner bond with the Indonesian public. He said, the massive support was the main reason why he never hesitated to return to Jakarta.

"You need to know, my listeners are the most in the world, if you look at digital streaming, for example on Spotify, the most from this country (Indonesia)," said McKnight at a press conference in Kuningan, South Jakarta recently.

"So, there is no reason not to come again (to Indonesia)," he added.

For him, the enthusiasm and response of the local audience always gives an unexpected surprise, so that every performance feels different even though it has been repeated many times.

Apart from the number of factors on digital platforms, McKnight felt that the atmosphere in Indonesia provided personal comfort. He likened his visit to Jakarta to returning to his own home, because of the hospitality of the people.

"You must think I come here often. Why did I suddenly come again? I don't know either, but to this country I feel like I'm coming home - the atmosphere, the people - like coming home a second time," said the 56-year-old soloist.

The latest concert, which is scheduled to take place at the Balai Sarbini on Friday, January 16, carries a more intimate concept.

The warmth of the concert organized by FolagoPro and Color Asia Live will also be opened by the performance of the talented Indonesian singer, Dira Sugandi.

For Dira, this opportunity is an extraordinary achievement in her musical career. "I swear, this is like a dream come true. In 2023, I collaborated on the stage with Brian, and this year I became the opening act. It's really nice," he concluded.
