KKP Needs IDR 1.71 Trillion to Recover the Maritime and Fisheries Sector after the Great Flood of Sumatra
JAKARTA - The budget needs for the recovery of the maritime and fisheries sector after the Sumatra disaster are said to reach Rp. 1.71 trillion. This is as stated by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in a meeting with Commission IV of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 14.
Trenggono said that the budget would be used for two KKP program plans, namely infrastructure rehabilitation and business assistance.
"Based on technical calculations, the total estimated budget needs for the recovery of the marine and fisheries sector in Sumatra is IDR 1.71 trillion. Therefore, we ask for the support of Commission IV of the DPR RI and partner ministries/institutions to be able to establish synergy and cooperation both in the recovery and improvement of the community's economy," he said.
For the rehabilitation of infrastructure, it includes the rehabilitation of piers, the rehabilitation of buildings, the rehabilitation of fishing catch infrastructure, the rehabilitation of cultivation ponds to the reconstruction of damaged fish processing units.
Meanwhile, assistance for business facilities will be provided in the form of procurement of boats, procurement of engines and fishing gear, procurement of seeds and feed to the procurement of chest freezers. This step is taken so that fishermen and fish farmers can immediately start production again.
"Based on the results of coordination with regional heads and field surveys, this disaster has a direct impact on the livelihoods of fishermen, fish farmers and fish processors in the three disaster-affected provinces," he said.
Based on the exposure materials displayed, currently there are 8,368 fishermen, 27,879 fish farmers, 1,431 fish processors, 3,612 fishing vessels, 396 fish processing units (UPI) and 30,723 hectares (ha) of ponds affected by disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
In addition to the recovery steps, Trenggono also reported that his party currently has a KKP Action Response and Care for Disaster Sumatra task force that has taken several steps, such as the establishment of a post in three strategic points to the deployment of a fleet of ships for evacuation and distribution of logistics.
Not only that, said Trenggono, his party also deployed cadets from service schools under the supervision of the KKP to carry out various tasks, such as cleaning public facilities, rehabilitating the environment, and providing trauma healing services for disaster victims.
"In accordance with Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 1 of 2026 concerning the Task Force (Satgas) for the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction after Natural Disasters in the Provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, our focus now shifts to the phase of economic recovery for the community," he explained.
