Commission III of the DPR urges the KPK to investigate the corruption of tax officials, the Ministry of Finance is asked to cooperate
Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdullah, urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to thoroughly investigate the alleged bribery case involving the reduction of tax values involving employees of the North Jakarta Deputy KPP, the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), the Ministry of Finance.
Abdullah said that corruption cases in the tax environment were not the first time and continued to occur. According to him, this case shows a serious problem in the supervision system and integrity of the tax apparatus.
He also emphasized that the disclosure of this case must be used as an important momentum to carry out a thorough cleaning at the tax office.
"The case of bribery and corruption of tax officials is very painful and detrimental to the community. Taxes are the backbone of state finances, but they are actually diverted by individuals who should be the front line of state revenue," Abdullah told reporters, Wednesday, January 14.
Abdullah assessed that the practice of corruption in the tax sector was increasingly intolerable, considering that tax officials had received relatively large facilities and salaries compared to other state apparatuses. Although earning a large income, he said, this does not guarantee the clean behavior of some individuals from corrupt practices.
"With a large enough income, there should be no more reason to commit corruption. The fact that this practice still occurs shows the weakness of integrity and internal supervision," he said.
He also supports the KPK's steps to investigate this case to its roots, including tracing the possibility of the involvement of other parties and opening a wider network of corruption in the Directorate General of Taxes.
"Law enforcement must be carried out firmly, transparently, and without discrimination. Public trust in tax institutions can only be restored if the state is present and really serious about eradicating corruption," said the PKB legislator from the Central Java VI District.
Abdullah also asked the Ministry of Finance to be open and cooperative in the case. "No party should try to cover up the case," he concluded.
Previously, the KPK had named 5 suspects related to the bribery case for reducing tax values at the North Jakarta Sub-KPP. The KPK said that the alleged tax leak in this case was almost Rp. 60 billion.
The KPK has also seized a number of documents, Electronic Evidence (BBE), and cash during a search of the headquarters of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) in South Jakarta, Tuesday, January 13.
