Garut Police Investigate 3 Reports of Wedding Organizer Fraud Cases

GARUT - The Garut Police have deployed a team to investigate three reports of victims of fraud cases for "wedding organizer" (WO) services or wedding party providers in Garut Regency, West Java, with losses of hundreds of millions of rupiah because the party was not held.

"We have just received three reports from victims, the next stage is to collect the information first, before we move on to the next stage of summoning the reported parties," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Garut Police, AKP Joko Prihatin, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 13.

He said the police had received information about a suspected case of WO fraud whose victims were residents of Garut or prospective brides.

Meanwhile, he said, there were only three victims who gave official reports to the Garut Police regarding the WO service fraud with the modus operandi that the victim's money had been received while the party activities according to the request were not carried out.

"The modus operandi is that the victim first handed over the money, when the day of implementation, this WO party was not there, so the party activities were not held," said Joko.

The victim reported the owner of the WO service business, initials AM (27), for fraud by not holding a wedding party as requested by the victim.

"Initially, there were 40 prospective brides and grooms on the list of agreements for the implementation of wedding parties in 2025 and the wedding party agenda from January to July 2026 with a total of more than Rp500 million in money received," he said.

"The party activities were not carried out according to schedule, there was fraud, if for the next schedule this has not happened because there is also one in July (2026)," he said.

The police confirmed that they would handle the case professionally in accordance with applicable laws by first collecting statements from witnesses, victims, and other evidence.

"Later we will call the person concerned, so it is not suddenly called immediately, there is a procedure," said Joko.
