YouTube TV Starts Rolling Out New Live Guide Design for Android and iOS Users

Jakarta - YouTube TV started 2026 with a major update to its mobile app. The Google-owned streaming platform is reportedly starting to roll out a redesigned Live Guide for Android and iOS users, presenting a more modern look and a more practical live broadcast browsing experience.

In this latest update, YouTube TV presents a Live Guide interface that looks similar to the design of YouTube TV on smart TV devices that was first introduced in 2023. Previously, the Live tab in the mobile application displayed a fairly minimalist list of channels, with a preview of the broadcast at the top of the screen. Now, the display has changed quite significantly.

One of the most noticeable changes is the position of the channel icon, which has now been moved to the left side of the screen. With this layout, users can more easily see the channel list and browse upcoming programs by simply swiping the screen. YouTube TV also added a permanent "Jump to live" button at the bottom, so users can immediately return to the ongoing broadcast at any time.

The "Sort" menu has also changed location. If it was previously in another place, now the menu can be found in the upper left corner. Through this menu, users can rearrange the Live Guide according to preferences, for example based on favorite channels or certain categories.

In addition to making navigation easier, the new Live Guide design also improves the experience of previewing channels. In the latest view, users simply press and hold one of the programs to bring up a floating panel above the Live Guide. This panel not only displays a live broadcast preview, but also includes a more detailed description of the episode.

In the panel, users are also presented with a number of action options, such as adding events to the Library, setting reminders, opening the program page, or directly going to the channel page. This feature is considered to make interaction with the Live Guide faster and more informative.

However, this update has not fully aligned YouTube TV with YouTube's latest design language. Some parts of the application, such as the Home and Library tabs, still use the old look. The icons on the bottom navigation bar have not been updated, so the visual impression between the Live Guide and other parts of the application is still not completely consistent.

For comparison, YouTube's own new design language has actually been implemented in the YouTube and YouTube Music main applications. Therefore, many users expect YouTube TV to get further updates to equalize the overall appearance of the application.

The report states that the new design of the Live Guide has started to appear for most YouTube TV users on mobile devices. However, if the update has not been seen, users are advised to ensure that the application has been updated to the latest version via the Google Play Store or App Store. Closing and reopening the application, or performing a force stop, can also help bring up the new display.

With this redesign, YouTube TV hopes to improve user convenience in exploring live broadcasts on mobile devices, while simplifying access to current and upcoming content.
